What Is Sin?

Writer's picture: Adrianne BrownAdrianne Brown

Sin is a vice. A vice is any practiced bad habit that keeps one in bondage. Sin is indulging in things that separate us from God. Worshiping things like Idols: things and or people worshiped and placed above God, Participating in Adultery: voluntary violation of a marriage, Pride to the point of conceit; self-esteem not within reasonable limits, Being Enviousness: a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc., Selfishness: devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others. There are so many things that are derived from sin that keep us in bondage and separated from God. God will forgive us for the many sins we do, but there are six that the Lord hates, even seven being an abomination.

What Are the Things that God Hates?

"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief. A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).

How Can One Get Free From Sin?

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19). But the day of the Lord will comeh as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up (2 Peter 3:10).
