Writer's picture: Adrianne BrownAdrianne Brown

The mind must process a myriad of things in a matter of less than seconds. It must reason logically and intellectually, perceive via the senses, keep the body functional, while at the same time be, somewhat, cognizant of emotional, and physical suggestions/impulses. With all that the mind is responsible for, how can one keep his from self destructing?

Stop The Negative Self Talk - Learn To Shut It Down

You wouldn't allow anyone to talk negatively toward you or use words aimed to break your self-esteem, so why allow your own negative self-talk talk you into melancholy? Don't allow your mind to beat you up about not being good enough for this, that, him or her. When you have did your best, let your best be good enough. Negative thoughts have their purpose. Use them to push you forward, not tear you down. Habitually defuse negative self-talk. When your mind starts on the self-destructing trail, rebuke it. Shut it down! Practice saying "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). If you don't feel like being bothered, its okay, don't be bothered. Use your alone time to renew Your mind.

Renew your mind

Have Faith in God's Word. Know that "....weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). When negative self-talk tells you that you will always be lonely, tell those thoughts 'I know that I must show myself friendly, but I also know that I have a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18-24). Remind yourself that "... the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). And "...they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). Guard your heart.

Remember To Guard Your Heart

Remember the mind's thought processes are governed not only by the senses, but the spirit/heart connection. The heart and the spirit are parallel and interchangeable. The heart is the seat of the intellect, as well as the emotional and spiritual life. Your emotions those feelings and beliefs you have, and think about yourself, and others, must be guarded."Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life (Proverbs 4:23).

Think On God's Promises

"Now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:13).
