There are a lot of things that can be said about gambling. Many people squander their lively hoods on the concept that all you need is a dollar and a dream. Sadly, for many, gambling may quickly become an addiction. According to Psychology Today, gambling is based on 5 phenomenon. One of which is gambling fallacy; belief that if an event happens repeatedly, a different event is imminent. However, in reality, the odds of any particular event occurring are always the same. Some people believe gambling is just a game to pass time, others believe it is a way to make some quick cash, but believers in Christ need to know that gambling is a sin.
"No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (Luke 16:13). For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10).
Gambling Can Turn Into An Addiction
According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, 2 million U.S. adults are pathological gamblers and another 4 to 6 million are problem gamblers. This addiction can destroy the stability of the family, lead to job loss, and cause a person to lose control of their life. Casino owners may promise certain freedoms if one hits the jackpot, but what they don't promise is that on'es hope may be deferred.
"While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage (2 Peter 2:19).
Endure Temptation
"Blessed is the man that endure temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempt he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bring forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bring forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and come down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation, neither shadow of turning (James 1:12-17).
The Body Is The Lord's
Everything that is a sin may not be listed in the scriptures, but we know what is and isn't beneficial for us. Jesus Christ blood shed on the Cross pardoned man's sin, whosoever will accept Him. However, God's forgiveness of sin does not give one a license to sin. Anything that controls our lives and leads us away from God is sin. Just as our spirits affect our physical bodies, so our physical bodies affect our spirits. One must not abuse the freedom God gave him.
"Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me] (1 Corinthians 6:12). Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
