To focus is to pay close attention. There are so many things that call for all of our senses to pay attention. It takes a great deal of mental energy to collect, store, analyze, and categorize before one makes an attentive judgement. The more we place our attention on the maybe of tomorrow, the less attentive energy there is to focus on the now.
So Many Things To Pay Attention To
There are so many things that call for our attention, which could fracture our focus. To focus is to concentrate on allowing a clear perception or understanding to shine through. A fractured focus throws the mind into confusion and disorder. Attention is a limited resource. One's mental energy has not the ability to do or rather to focus on more than one thing at a time. This is the reason why people are forgetting there pets, and children, in hot cars, forgetting where they parked, walking off of platforms, falling down stairs, and the like. No one intentionally does these things. It is the lack of attentive resources due to worrying about tomorrow. "So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today (Mathew 6:34).
Are You Paying Attention?
God endowed man with a wonderful brain system which consciously, and subconsciously draws our attention. Our brains have the ability to automatically, or rather subconsciously, make decisions for us like blinking, turning our heads when we hear noises and so on, as well as our conscious minds having the ability to think, analyze, and will to do what it chooses. Although the conscious side of the brain works on the automatic suggestions of the subconscious side, it (the conscious) has the ability to choose where to allow its attention. God endowed man with will power. We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). We have to choose to have faith, and instruct our faith to focus on the now that God has given us.
Focus On The Now
Now, at the present time, is the time to focus on our faith in Jesus. We need now faith. "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). It is to have no doubt in your heart about God's promises. "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). No matter how low you feel, or what you desire to have, always praise God for life. Remember, "This is the day which the LORD hath made; .... rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). Praise God and choose to focus on the life God gives you now; at this present time.
