Do You Want Intimacy With God?

Writer's picture: Adrianne BrownAdrianne Brown

"If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us (1 John 6-10).

Walk In The Light

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (John 3:16-17). Walking in the light is walking in and with God's Son-Jesus. He is the light of the world..."In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (John 1:4-5). Jesus is still the light, even in these modern times, to those of us who will believe. His light reveals things as they truly are.

Jesus is Truth and Love

Do you want intimacy; closeness with God? Developing an intimate relationship, a connection; communion, with Jesus is key. You have already been Justified; forgiven once you believed, however closeness; spiritual intimacy, comes when Jesus' truth is applied. Jesus is truth and love. His truth is absolutely the highest, and only, level by which this reality is measured. His love for us was demonstrated on Cross. His Crucifixion was and still is the ultimate expression of His truth and love. If one believes in what Jesus did for him on the Cross, and accepts His free gift of life, he will experience true intimacy with God.

Immerse Yourself in the Word

Our fellowship is not validated by what we say, but by what we do. To love God and have intimacy with Him is to take action and walk in His Light. Light exposes the things in us that need cleansing. Everyone needs cleansing. What kind of Father would God be if He did not clean His children? Any parent can answer that question. Continue to immerse yourself in God's Word; His Light, walk in truth and love, and He will change everything about you. Sanctification; the cleansing, is achieved by the ongoing work of God's Holy Spirit. "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known (1 Corinthians 13:12). As we live fully exposed to God's truth, and ongoing cleansing, we develop an intimacy with Him that will last into eternity. That's when we'll experience Glorification; God's final removal of sin.

Remain In The Vine

Jesus said, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love (John 15:1-10).
